Lord Lucan was killed by his aristocrat friends

It is believed that Lucan accidentally  murdered his children’s nanny when he mistook her for his wife. This caused him to flee with the help of his friends.

He was flown to a safe-haven by his gambling circle.

The 7th Earl of Lucan’s associates, known as the Clermont Set, had sympathy with him due to his "difficult marriage". But they became scared when Lucan kept trying to make contact with his children, knowing it would expose their involvement.

The infamous disappearance of Lord Lucan, 39 at the time came after he  killed nanny Sandra Rivett, 29, in error at his Mayfair home.

He was of officially declared dead in February of 1974.

Lucan had attempted to kill his wife Veronica, then 37, who threatened to divorce him and take his children.
