He was asked to dress as his Lord Of The Rings character Gandalf, so he turned down the offer.

The 77-year-old actor previously qualified as a ‘celebrant’ to conduct Star Trek actor Sir Patrick Stewart's civil wedding with Sunny Ozell in 2013, but turned down the latest offer - despite the giant pay check.

This is what the talented character actor Sir Ian McKellan told the Mail on Sunday :

"I was offered one-and- a-half million dollars to marry a very famous couple in California, which I would perhaps have considered doing but I had to go dressed as Gandalf.

"So I said, 'I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings'."

According to the newspaper, the offer came from the co-founder of Napster and first president of Facebook, Silicon Valley tycoon Sean Parker.

36 year old Parker reportedly has a net worth of £1.8billion according to Forbes magazine, and he spent several millions of dollars creating a perfect Lord of the Rings-themed wedding.

Gandalf was supposed to be the icing on the cake but Sir Ian McKellan turned down the offer.
