A vicious attack has been carried out by a Kenyan man on his wife.
The couple had been having problems in their seven year marriage, primarily because of their inability to bear children.
Targeted attack. The 34-year-old Kenyan man cut off his wife's hands with a large knife.
He carried out the deadly assault because she wasn't able to give him children.
It is being described as one of the most atrocious cases of domestic violence.
The 28-year-old Jackline Mwende from Kathama Village, Masii in Machakos County, had her hands chopped off at the wrists by her husband, Stephen Ngila Thenge after he surprised her with a knife attack, when she opened the house door to him.
Apart from the loss of both her hands, she is also nursing injuries on her head and neck from the gruesome attack.
He carried out the attack inspite of the fact that doctors had confirmed that him, and not her was the reason they couldn't have children.
A medical condition that was treatable.
Relatives confirmed that the couple had been having problems. It got so intense that Ms Mwende wanted to leave her husband, but was advised against it by "their pastor"
The advice backfired.
In the victims own words.
"He moved out of our house three months ago and came back on Sunday at around 8.30pm. When I opened the door, he said 'today is your last day’ and started slashing me with the panga."
The man has been taken into custody and his disfigured wife is now struggling with her family to pay the medical bills.
